Hallong

The main item used to carry crops from Jum fields is called Kabang in the Tripura language and Hallong in the Chakma language. The Kabang is also used to store crops for a short time. In fact, almost all types of products harvested from Jum cultivation are carried with the Kabáng. It is also used to carry offerings during various rituals and festivals.

Kabangs come in different sizes depending on their use. They are made of bamboo cane, and their weaving often shows artistic patterns. In many cases, this artistic design reflects the unique identity of the weaver. A Kabang weaver expresses his skill and elegance through the quality of his craftsmanship. Among different Tripura clans, the Kabang is sometimes known by other names, such as Nokhai. It is also called by different names depending on its size.

Similar to the Kabang but different in weaving style is another basket called Khangra or Harang. Unlike the Kabáng/Hallong, the Khangra/Harang has a looser, more open weave. It is commonly used for collecting and carrying firewood or vegetables. Compared to the Hallong, it is lighter in weight.
