CHT ACCORD 1997

The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Accord of 1997 is an agreement signed between the Government of Bangladesh and the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), the political party of Indigenous Jumma Peoples in CHT to end decades long arms conflict in the CHT region. It aimed to ensure political, cultural, economic, social and land rights of the Indigenous Peoples and other inhabitants through regional self-governance and the establishment of local councils. The Accord marked a significant step toward restoring peace, justice and development in the area.
