Shishir Chakma

(1960– )

Poet Shishir Chakma was a teacher at the Moanoghar Residential School. Alongside his teaching career, he has been deeply involved in literature with the noble aim of adding new dimensions to Chakma literature and making society realize that literature is the mirror of a nation.

He was born on December 2, 1960, in Rangamati, often referred to as the “daughter of the hills” for its breathtaking natural beauty. Since his student life, he has been engaged in literary pursuits. Although he has not yet published any books, his contributions to Jumma literature are considered invaluable.

In 1988, he earned a postgraduate degree in Bengali Language and Literature from the University of Chittagong. He is a founding member of Jum Aesthetic Council (JAC), a renowned literary and cultural organization based in Rangamati and serving as a President of the organization.

His poetry resonates strongly with the struggles for the rights of the people in the hill region, inspiring and energizing the masses. Through his poems, he expresses his heartfelt thoughts and emotions on subjects such as nature, the people of the hills, and the state’s governance system.
